Artist statement: 

In 2018, Matt Chessco started working as a mechanical engineer. Every hour he spent on the job, he found himself asking, “What am I doing here?” Just four days into his first engineering role, he went home and made a list of the pros and cons of keeping the job. Under "pros," he wrote only one thing: money.

The next day, he walked into the office and told his boss he was quitting engineering for good. When asked what he planned to do next, Matt replied with the first thing that came to mind: “I’m going to become an artist.” A few minutes later, he walked out and never looked back.

In the months that followed, he began developing his unique art style and posting regularly on social media. A year and a half later, he became a full-time artist, thanks to his entertaining art videos.

This painting is a testament to Matt's journey. It reflects how he once followed the societal script, chasing money over purpose, until he chose to take control of his destiny and pursue his true passion.
